Staying Safe

Staying safe on campus starts with a few everyday habits—like being aware of your surroundings and knowing what to do if something feels off. The tips and resources below can help you plan ahead, get home safely after hours, and quickly connect with help in an emergency.

Everyday safety tips

  • Lock doors and windows whenever you leave—even if it’s only briefly.
  • Stick to well-lit routes when walking at night, and let a friend know when you’re heading out.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings—if you’re wearing earbuds, keep the volume low.
  • If a situation feels off, move to a well-lit area or a public space.
  • If you need help, use a campus blue light emergency phone to connect with a dispatcher who will see your exact location.
  • Call 911 immediately if you are in danger or see suspicious activity.
