Romonia R. Atchison

Romonia serves as a Blavin Campus Coach and Outreach/Recruitment Coordinator for the Blavin Scholars Program. Using the Fostering Success Michigan coaching model, she helps students enhance their life skills for self-sufficiency across seven core life domains, while providing guidance and coaching through their academic and personal concerns. Additionally, she provides on-call support for Blavin Scholars, assists with program planning, and attends community and educational events to recruit potential students for the program.

Before coming to the University of Michigan in May 2022, Romonia was a support coordinator for children and families with disabilities and/or mental health challenges; an outpatient therapist for children, young adults, and families practicing cognitive behavioral therapy regarding various mental health disorders; a family support coordinator for children and families to educate families on their children’s growth and development and establish family goals to address stability needs; a supervised independent living (SIL) and foster care case worker helping youth transition to independent living; and a residential youth counselor for adolescent young girls within the child welfare system. Romonia earned her bachelor of science in social work in August 2009 from Eastern Michigan University and her master of social work in May 2018 from Wayne State University.
