Associate Vice President and Dean of Students

Laura’s work in higher education has spanned over four decades.  She has served as the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students at the University of Michigan since 2009. In this capacity she oversees a variety of Student Life units, programs and services within the Dean of Students (DOS) office and beyond. DOS programs include: Critical Incident and Student Support, Campus Climate Support, Expect Respect, Beyond the Diag (off-campus housing), Parent and Family Engagement, the Blavin Scholars Program and Michigan Debate. She also provides support to Central Student Government (CSG) executive  officers.

Other units in her portfolio include: the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC), Fraternity &Sorority Life (FSL), Student Legal Services (SLS), and Student Accessibility and Accommodation Services (SAAS) which includes Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD); Testing Accommodation Centers (TAC); Adaptive Sports and Fitness (ASF) and Academic Support and Access Partnerships (ASAP).

Laura She has previously served as the Interim Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Students and Director of the Office of Student Life at the University of Oregon (1994–2009), as the Assistant Director of Housing and Dining Services and Director of Residence Life at UC Berkeley (1987–1994), and as Community Development Coordinator at UC Davis (1985–1987). Laura earned her bachelor’s degree at Miami University in 1983. She holds a master’s degree in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education from the University of Vermont (1985), and earned her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Oregon (2004).
