Hazing Awareness and Prevention

Hazing is defined as any intentional, knowing, or reckless act committed by a person (whether individually or in concert with other persons) against another person or persons regardless of the willingness of such other person or persons to participate, that

1. is committed in the course of an initiation into, an affiliation with, or the maintenance of membership in, a student organization; and
2. causes or creates a risk, above the reasonable risk encountered in the course of participation in the University or the organization (such as the physical preparation necessary for participation in an athletic team) of physical or psychological injury.

File a Hazing Report if you know of, or have experienced, an incidence of hazing.

File a Report of Student Conflict or Misconduct if you know of, or have experienced, conduct that violates general student rights and responsibilities.

Anyone can choose to file a private, voluntary crime report under U-M policy (SPG 601.91). Exception: If you are a trained or designated Campus Security Authority (CSA), you cannot use this private option.

Submit an anonymous tip at any hour by:

• Filling out the online form on the U-M Compliance Hotline site

Our policy complies with the Stop Campus Hazing Act, the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, and Garrett’s Law in the State of Michigan.
